St. John's Readies for Benbow Invitational

The Johnnies will tee off at 9 a.m. on Monday
The St. John's women's golf team kicks off its spring slate in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday for the Benbow Invitational hosted by BIG EAST foe Butler.

The two-day 36-hole event will be played at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, with round one on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Shotgun starts are scheduled for 9 a.m. both days on the par-71 course.

The Johnnies will participate in the Benbow Invitational for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign. St. John's saw success at the event its last time around, carding a two-round 606 (306-300) to claim the team title. Linda Wang led the way for the Johnnies, capitalizing in a three-hole playoff to separate herself from the pack and emerge victorious.

Wang will enter this week's tournament as the team's number one golfer, while classmate Kaitleen Shee and sophomore Jessie Kweon are slotted in the second and third positions. Freshman Cloe Clocchiatti and junior Andrea Sanchez will round out the lineup for St. John's.

Rookies Laia Barro and Jill Beglin will play as individuals.

The 14-team field will include host school Butler, along with Austin Peay, Coastal Georgia, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Lehigh, Quinnipiac, Purdue Fort Wayne, Radford, Savannah State, St. John's, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Youngstown State.
