Jessie Kweon and Linda Wang sit inside the top-five following round one
Led by strong individual performances from Jessie Kweon and Linda Wang, the St. John's women's golf team sits in second place after day one of the Benbow Invitational.
The Johnnies turned in a combined score of 309 to sit just one shot back of Quinnipiac in first.
Kewon leads the way for the Red Storm, carding a first-round 75 to sit in tie for second with Natalie Welsh of Radford. Kewon enters Tuesday's final round one-shot back of Kayla Krueger from Valparaiso, who leads the pack.
Wang fired off a 76 over the first 18 holes and is currently in a four-way tie for fourth.
Junior Andrea Sanchez joined Kewon and Wang inside the top-10. The Cancun native recorded a 77 to tie for eighth overall in the standings.
Laia Barro, who is playing as an individual, registered an 80, while senior Kaitleen Shee finished with an 81.
Cloe Clocchiatti and Jill Beglin rounded out scoring for the Johnnies', each carding an 83, respectively.
St. John's will begin its second round of action on Tuesday in an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
