Hampton to Participate in ABCA Virtual Coaching Clinic on Tuesday

Hampton will be part of seven-member panel discussing recruiting perspectives
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 3, 2020) – Mike Hampton will take part in the latest installment of the American Baseball Coaches Association's virtual coaching clinics series, serving on a seven-member panel that will discuss recruiting perspectives on Tuesday night beginning at 8 p.m.
Hampton, who is in his 19th season with Red Storm baseball program, will take part in the virtual clinic alongside coaches from programs like Oregon State, Alabama and Michigan.

Hampton was elevated to the position of interim head coach in January after longtime skipper Ed Blankmeyer left the University to pursue an opportunity in the New York Mets organization. In a shortened 2020 season, Hampton led the Red Storm to a number of memorable moments, including a win over No. 19 Georgia Tech in Atlanta and a series victory over Cal in Berkeley, the first over a Pac-12 foe in program history. In their final two games of the campaign, their first of the year in the Northeast, the Johnnies ganged up on a pair of local foes, defeating Saint Peter's and Iona by a combined margin of 30-4.
With Hampton on staff as the team's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, the Red Storm won four BIG EAST Tournament titles, claimed six BIG EAST Regular Season Championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament 10 different times between 2004 and 2018.
Hampton has recruited nine future major leaguers during his time at St. John's and has seen 66 of his players drafted or signed to affiliated professional contracts.
Hampton was selected in the fourth round of the 1994 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds following an All-American playing career at Clemson, where he hit .380 as a senior and helped lead the Tigers to a 57-18 record. In addition to his bachelor's degree from Clemson, Hampton also holds a master's degree in athletic coaching education from West Virginia University.
