St. John’s Athletics Concludes another Outstanding Year in the Classroom

Each of the Red Storm’s 17 varsity teams posted above a 3.2 GPA
QUEENS, N.Y. (June 5, 2020) – St. John's student-athletes earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.72 during the spring 2020 semester, highlighting another successful year in the classroom for the Red Storm.
As a whole, St. John's turned in a 3.51 cumulative GPA during the 2019-20 academic year with 90 percent of Johnnies achieving a mark of 3.0 or better. The Red Storm also had 59 percent of its student-athletes earn above a 3.5 GPA.
"During a very difficult semester, our student-athletes did a remarkable job," said Associate Athletics Director for Student Services Eric Rienecker. "They adapted to online learning and preserved through very challenging times to achieve the highest average GPA for student-athletes in past 20 years."
Women's soccer and men's tennis led the way for the Red Storm this year, posting the two highest team GPA's of 3.81 and 3.64, respectively. St. John's saw 72 Johnnies earn a 4.0 GPA for the 2020 spring semester as all 17 Red Storm teams notched a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for the 2019-20 academic year.
A total of 34 Johnnies were inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2020, Chi Alpha Sigma. Student-athletes must post a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and achieve at least junior academic standing in order to be considered for the honor.
