Qadashah Hoppie and Kadaja Bailey record career-high scoring efforts

Despite a pair of career-high performances from Qadashah Hoppie and Kadaja Bailey, the St. John's women's basketball team fell to No. 19/22 DePaul, 101-84, on Wednesday evening in Chicago.

Hoppie led the way offensively for the Red Storm with a career-best 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor, including a 6-of-9 mark from three-point range. The senior from Staten Island has reached double figures in all six games that she has played this year, including a trio of 20-point performances. The 5-foot-9 guard also recorded seven rebounds and three assists for the Johnnies.

Bailey eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the first time in her Red Storm career. The junior guard finished with 22 points on a 10-of-13 shooting from the field. The Long Beach, N.Y., native also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds to go along with two blocks and two steals.

Camree Clegg finished just shy of double-digit scoring, chipping in nine points. The redshirt sophomore also dished out a team-best six dimes in 26 minutes of action.

As a team, St. John's (4-6, 1-4 BIG EAST) outshot DePaul (7-3, 4-1 BIG EAST) from the floor in terms of percentage, 54.1 to 48.2, but the Blue Demons took 83 attempts to the Red Storm's 61.

DePaul opened up the scoring, rattling off an 11-2 run to lead by nine through the first three minutes of action. After going a little over a minute without a bucket, Bailey finally broke through for the Red Storm, converting on back-to-back layups to trim the Johnnies' deficit down to five, 11-6.

The Blue Demons managed to build their lead back up to nine, 15-6, before Hoppie drained a shot from deep to pull the Johnnies back within six, 15-9, with 3:35 remaining in the quarter.

DePaul continued to build its lead over the remainder of the quarter, taking a 12-point advantage after 10 minutes of action, 26-14.

The two teams traded blows in the early minutes of the second stanza before DePaul unleashed a 14-2 run to grow its advantage to 23, 47-24, with under three minutes remaining in the half.
The Johnnies battled down the stretch, holding the Blue Demons to just seven points over the final four minutes of the second quarter, with DePaul leading, 51-31, at the break.

At the intermission, Hoppie paced the way for the Red Storm in scoring with 14 points, knocking down four of her six attempts from three-point range.

Coming out of the locker room, the two teams traded buckets before DePaul uncorked a 7-0 run to balloon its lead to 26, 65-39. The Johnnies responded with a 9-3 run to get back within 20, 68-48.

Entering the final 10 minutes of action, the Red Storm took off on a 11-5 offensive surge, to get back within 16, 87-71.

The Johnnies managed to get within 14, 94-80, over the final minutes before the Blue Demons secured the victory.

The Johnnies will return to action on Sunday when they welcome Marquette to Carnesecca Arena for a 2 p.m. matchup
