St. John’s to Close Conference Play on The Road

The match against No. 21 Creighton will be televised on FS1
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2021) – The St. John's volleyball team will travel to Providence and No. 21 Creighton this weekend to finish out its 2021 conference season.
The Johnnies return to action against Providence on Friday at 6 p.m. before traveling west to face Creighton on Sunday at 2 p.m. The match against Providence will be featured on FloSports while the Creighton game will be nationally televised on FS1. This is the only time the Johnnies will play on television this season.
The Red Storm won the first set against Connecticut, 25-21, before dropping the next two sets by scores of 25-21, and 25-20. St. John's picked up the fourth set, 25- 20, before the final set went to Connecticut, 15-12. Five different Johnnies recorded career-highs in the match including Sheena Yoshioka with five service aces and Giorgia Walther with 20 kills. Against Seton Hall, St, John's fell in three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20.
On the national leaderboard, St. John's players continue to sit in top spots in multiple statistical categories. Rachele Rastelli is currently tied for second in total points with 555 and tied for fourth in total kills with 475. She is also no. 15 with 5.19 points per set, no. 19 with 4.44 kills per set and no. 36 with 1,105 total attacks. Ariadni Kathariou is tied for second with 141 total blocks and 27th with 1.31 blocks per set.
St. John's currently ranks ninth in the 11-team BIG EAST standings boasting a .312 win percentage in conference play and a .467 clip overall. The Red Storm is ranked 104th in RPI. The mark is fifth in the conference after Creighton (12), Marquette (14) DePaul (56) and Connecticut (69).
Providence currently sits in 10th place in league play boasting a 3-13 conference record. Overall, the Friars are 15-14 after recording just one loss during the non-conference season. Last weekend, Providence fell in four sets to both George- town and Villanova. The Friars are led by Preseason All-BIG EAST Pick Allison Barber, who averages 9.25 assists per set, good enough for fourth in the league.
Earlier this season, on Oct. 2, Providence took down the Johnnies in four sets. St. John's continues to lead the overall series, 21-6.
Creighton is the reigning BIG EAST Champion and is set to repeat that honor as it sits in first place in conference play. The Bluejays will host Seton Hall on Friday before welcoming St. John's on Sunday. Creighton defeated both Georgetown and Villanova in three sets last weekend. The Bluejays are led by Preseason All-BIG EAST picks Jaela Zimmerman and Noami Hick- man. Zimmerman currently leads Creighton with 3.75 kills per set while Hickman leads the Bluejays with 107 total blocks.
Earlier this season, St. John's upset then-No.16 Creighton in four sets on Oct. 1 recording its third win in the 16-game overall series with the Bluejays.
