The Johnnies and the Bulldogs will tip off at 1 p.m.
Coming off a two-game road swing, the St. John's women's basketball team returns to the comfy confines of Carnesecca Arena for a Sunday showdown against Ivy League foe Yale.
The matchup between the Johnnies and the Bulldogs will be streamed live on FloSports, with Phyllis Mangina and John Fanta on the call from Queens.
The Red Storm squad enters Sunday's contest on the heels of a 76-67 road win at Temple on Wednesday. Senior guard Kadaja Bailey had a career night for the Red Storm against the Owls, pouring in a personal-best 24 points. The Long Beach, N.Y., knocked down four shots from beyond-the-arc and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. In addition to her scoring prowess, Bailey pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while also dishing out a pair of assists.
Wednesday's contest, saw five different Johnnies finish in double-digit scoring for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign. Unique Drake and Danielle Patterson recorded 12 points apiece while Leilani Correa and Danielle Cosgrove each chipped in 10 points each.
This season, the Red Storm has been led in the early going by Correa, a 2020-21 All-BIG EAST First Team selection. The junior guard, who on Monday morning was named to the first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll of the season, is averaging 16.7 points per game though a trio of contests this year. Bailey is also averaging double figures on the campaign, boasting 15.7 points to go along with 5.0 boards per game.
St. John's (2-1) and Yale (3-1) will meet for the fifth time in the history of the two programs. The Red Storm has come out victorious in the two team's four previous meetings, dating back to the 2014 season.
Yale comes to Queens with a record of 3-1. The Bulldogs opened up the season with three-straight victories before falling victim to Maine, 47-44, on Friday evening. Junior Forward Camilla Emsbo led the way for the Bulldogs, tallying a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Black Bears.
On the season, Camilla paces the way for Yale, averaging a double-double through four games this season. The Lakewood, Colo., native is registering 15.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.
Following its meeting with the Bulldogs on Sunday, St. John's will make a trip to the Sunshine State for the Gulf Coast Showcase. St. John's will open up play against Penn State on Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. for the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
