Red Storm to Continue Homestand against St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday

Red Storm and Terriers to meet for the 80th time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – After kicking off a long homestand with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, the St. John's men's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday night against longtime local foe St. Francis Brooklyn.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FS2. Tuesday's contest will mark the in-game broadcast debuts of popular FOX Sports podcasters Mark Titus and Tate Frazier, who will be on the call from Carnesecca Arena.  John Minko and Vin Parise will narrate the St. John's audio broadcast, which can be found on a variety of platforms including The Varsity Network app, SiriusXM app channel 974 and XM radio channel 384, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the recently launched St. John's Red Storm Mobile App.

St. John's (3-1) will look to remain unbeaten at home this season. In three contests at Carnesecca Arena, the Red Storm is averaging 99.0 points per game with an average margin of victory of 30.7 points.

In its most recent outing against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, the Red Storm led by as many as 22 and never trailed in a game that saw all five St. John's starters finish in double figures. Preseason All-BIG EAST selections Julian Champagnie and Posh Alexander led the way with 17 points apiece while Champagnie added a game-high 10 boards for his first double-double of the campaign.Â

Entering the week, Champagnie, who was selected to Monday's BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, ranks second in the BIG EAST with 22.8 points per game. Champagnie's most noteworthy performance of the past week actually came in a Red Storm loss, as the Brooklyn native scored a game-high 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting in a 76-74 setback against Indiana at Assembly Hall. The junior connected on six of his 12 attempts from beyond the arc and scored 22 of his 32 points in the second half, a period that saw St. John's erase a 12-point halftime deficit to tie the game on a pair of occasions.

The reigning BIG EAST Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year, Alexander has reached double figures in all four of his outings this season. After leading all BIG EAST freshmen and finishing sixth in the conference overall with 4.3 assists per game a season ago, Alexander is averaging a league-high 6.3 helpers per contest. The Our Saviour Lutheran product continues to be a menace on the defensive end, averaging 2.0 steals per contest after finishing sixth nationally with 2.6 per game as a freshman.

Against FDU, Joel Soriano scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting while Montez Mathis chipped in 13 and Stef Smith tallied 14. A few days earlier against the Hoosiers, Smith played a vital role in the Red Storm's comeback effort, scoring 13 of his 16 points in the second half.

Led by former St. John's assistant coach Glenn Braica, St. Francis comes to Queens with a record of 0-3 on the year. Two of those losses came on the road against Big Ten opponents, as the Terriers fell at Wisconsin and at Penn State. St. Francis also lost to St. Thomas Minnesota for the Tommies' first win as a Division I program.

The Terriers are led offensively by Western Michigan grad transfer Patrick Emilien, who is averaging 13.0 points per game on 48.6 percent shooting. The 6-foot-7 forward is also the team's second leading rebounder with 5.7 boards per contest. Michael Cubbage, a 6-foot-4 grad transfer from Marist, is averaging 10.0 points per game and leads the team's efforts on the glass with 6.0 rebounds per outing.

The Red Storm and the Terriers will meet for the 80th time in a series history that dates back to the first season of St. John's Basketball in 1907-08. The Johnnies hold a 67-12 advantage overall against the Terriers and currently own an eight-game winning streak stretching back to 2005.Â
