Team Hendry Edges Team Backman in Intrasquad World Series

The Red Storm competes in three intrasquad scrimmage games to complete its fall practice season
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's baseball team competed in its Intrasquad World Series this weekend with Team Hendry beating Team Backman, two games to one.
In Game One, Team Backman topped Team Hendry, 5-2. It was a balanced effort for the team clad in navy with Nick Cirelli, Carlos Hidalgo and David Glancy all recording at least one base hit. Cirelli smoked a double in his second at-bat of the game in the winning effort on Thursday afternoon.
Team Hendry flipped the script in Game 2 on Friday night, winning decisively, 8-0. Pitchers Ben Adams and Tyler Roche led the way for Team Hendry on the mound as they shut down Team Backman's offense. At the plate, third baseman Marty Higgins led the way, reaching base in all four of his at bats. Catcher Collin Wetterau also added two singles to help Team Hendry tie the Intrasquad World Series at a game apiece.
In the decisive Game 3, Team Hendry rode strong pitching and timely hitting to a series win by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium. David Williams paced efforts at the dish with a 2-for-2 outing, including an RBI double, to lead Team Hendry to the series win.
The end of the Intrasquad World Series marks the end of the fall practice season. The Red Storm will begin spring practice in January before making its season debut in February.
