Red Storm Readies for Games against La Salle and Wagner

St. John’s will play back-to-back contests on Saturday and Sunday
Coming off its first conference win of the season against Seton Hall on Sunday, the St. John's women's basketball team returns to action this weekend. The Johnnies will play host to La Salle on Saturday at 1 p.m. before making a trip to Staten Island for a Sunday showdown with Wagner at 2 p.m.

The matchup between the Johnnies and the Explorers will be streamed live on FloSports, with Phyllis Mangina and Ralph Bednarczyk on the call from Queens. Sunday's contest with the Seahawks will be available to watch at NECFrontRow.com.

St. John's will look to improve to 4-0 on the year in Queens after defeating BIG EAST foe Seton Hall, 88-75, on Sunday at Carnesecca Arena. Leilani Correa paced the squad with 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists in 40 minutes of action. Teammate Kadaja Bailey, who earned a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for the second time this season this past Monday, poured in 23 points against the Pirates, converting on all seven of her attempts from the floor. Bailey is one of just two players in nearly two decades to drain seven shots from the floor without a miss. Patrycja Gulak went a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor against FDU in 2002. Danielle Patterson registered her second double-double in as many games against Seton Hall. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native recorded 16 points and team-high 10 rebounds against the Pirates. Danielle Cosgrove also finished in double figures in the Johnnies' conference opener, netting 15 points on a 6-of-12 shooting from the floor in Sunday's contest.

Through games played on Thursday, Correa ranks third in the BIG EAST with 18.9 points per outing. The Manchester, N.J., native has finished in double figures in every game that she is played in for St. John's this season, eclipsing the 20-point plateau on a trio of occasions. Bailey also sits inside the top-15 in the league for scoring, boasting 14.6 points per game. The Long Beach, N.Y., native has been dangerous from beyond the arc this season, converting of 50 percent of her tries to sit second on the league's leaderboard.

La Salle (6-3) heads to Queens with a record of 6-3 on the season. The Explorers are riding three-game winning streak into Saturday's contest, including a 77-70 victory over UMES on Wednesday evening. In the victory, senior guard/forward Kayla Spruill posted a team-high 23 points and seven rebounds. On the season, Spruill powers her team offensively averaging 16.2 points per game. The Baltimore, Md., native is also pulling down a team-best 9.4 rebounds a contest. St. John's and La Salle will meet for just the fourth time in program history. The Red Storm leads the series, 2-1, and will look to continue its perfect record at home.Â

Wagner (6-1) enters Sunday's contest boasting a record of 6-1 on the season including a perfect 4-0 mark at home. After topping Rider, 62-58, on Tuesday afternoon, the Seahawks advanced their win streak to five. Redshirt sophomore Alex Cowan downed five of seven field goals on her way to a team-high 14 points. Wagner is led offensively by senior forward Emilija Krista Grava, who averages 13.1 points per game.  Junior guard Drayah Heyward has posted at least one steal in all contests, including two four-steal games. St. John's leads in the overall series against the Seahawks, 15-1, including a 14-game win streak, dating back to 1976. Â
