The Red Storm will look to maintain its undefeated home record
QUEENS, N.Y.- After defeating Seton Hall in the team's conference opener two weeks ago, the St. John's women's basketball team will host DePaul on Sunday at Carnesecca Arena.
Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Mike Watts and Aloysia Jacques on the call.
The Johnnies are looking to bounce back from their 72-69 loss at Wagner last Sunday. For the sixth time this season, Leilani Correa led the team in the scoring column, netting 16 points while adding four rebounds and two assists.
Unique Drake and Danielle Cosgrove also turned in solid performances against Wagner, scoring 13 points each. For Drake, it was her second straight game finishing in double figures. Both Drake and Cosgrove have reached the double-digit point plateau five times so far this season.
The Red Storm (5-5) will look to improve its home record to 5-0 when it welcomes DePaul (10-2), who received votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, on Sunday. St. John's is aiming to pick up its second win over a BIG EAST opponent after downing the Pirates, 88-75, on Dec. 5. In what was arguably the team's most complete performance of the season, Correa scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added nine boards while Kadaja Bailey went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor and added seven rebounds for 23 points. Danielle Patterson turned in a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double while Cosgrove chipped in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Entering Sunday's contest, Correa sits second in the conference in scoring, racking up an average of 19.2 points per game. The Manchester, N.J., native has reached double figures in every game she has played this season, including four efforts of 20 points or more.
As a team, St. John's ranks second in the BIG EAST in scoring offense averaging 74.5 points per contest. Only the Blue Demons, who lead the nation with 90.9 points per game, are averaging more than the Red Storm. The Johnnies also lead the conference in 3-pointers made, knocking down 8.6 triples per game.
DePaul enters Sunday's matchup on a five-game win streak, including a road victory over then-No. 14 Kentucky on Dec. 9. The Blue Demons followed up that marquee win with back-to-back 100-point outings against Nicholls State and Northern Illinois.
St. John's will look to earn its first win over DePaul since the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament semifinals, when the Red Storm knocked off the Blue Demons in McGrath-Phillips Arena en route to the program's fourth conference title.
Freshman Aneesah Morrow leads the way for DePaul on both ends of the floor. The reigning National Freshman of the Week leads the BIG EAST in rebounding and blocked shots and paces the team with 18 points per game.
