QUEENS, N.Y. (March 4, 2021) – The St. John's cross country team travels to North Carolina for the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Friday, while the track & field squad heads to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Villanova Dual Meet.
The Red Storm cross country team brings back its second and third runners, Katherine Bruno and Claire Cushing, who were both newcomers to the squad last year. Sophomores Grace Adolphe and Tiffany-Ann Matturro also return this season, giving the Johnnies four runners with conference championship experience.
The St. John's track & field team will take part in its second indoor meet of 2021, facing off against Villanova, Quinnipiac and Wagner at the Villanova Dual Meet. The Red Storm's 4x400-meter relay team took part in the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 20, taking first place with a time of 3:52.34. Senior sprinter Leah Anderson also earned the top podium spot in the 400 meters with a time of 55.18.
"This will be the first time that our cross country and track & field teams will be competing on the same day," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "We have a very young cross country team that will get a chance to run against some of the best programs in the country, while our entire indoor team will get to display their talents for the first time this year. We are looking forward to a historic day in St. John's cross country and track & field history."
The women's cross country race begins at 11 a.m. The event will be live broadcast on the BIG EAST YouTube page and FloSports.
The Villanova Dual Meet is slated to fall underway at 3:00 p.m. with the women's weight throw.
