Sophomore Alex Kyriacou leads the Red Storm after opening round
Following a frost delay in the early morning hours, the Ross Collegiate Classic has been suspended due to darkness late in the second round of action. The St. John's men's golf team will conclude its final holes of round two on Tuesday morning before playing its last 18.
"It took us a while to get going," said head coach Mal Galletta. "But we came in strong towards the end of the first round and continued strong through the stoppage of play."
Sophomore Alex Kyriacou paced the way for St. John's in the opening round, finishing with an eagle and four birdies to lead with a score of 73 after 18 holes.
Junior Jack Simon drained a trio of birdies, turning in a 78 at the conclusion of round one. Classmate Tyler Gerbavsits sits two strokes back of Simon, signing off on an 80.
Junior Joseph Busiello and sophomore Ryan Rittberger each carded an 83 in the opening round.
Freshman Doug Beney and sophomore Gage Wolfle, who both played as individuals, turned in scores of 83 and 84, respectively.
The Red Storm will conclude its final holes of round two on Tuesday morning before joining the field for the last round later in the day.
