Wang and Sanchez finish in a tie for second
The St. John's women's golf team is returning to Queens as champions, after claiming the team title at the Hawk Spring Series on Monday in Lakewood, N.J.
"It was great to get back to competition today," said head coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "Conditions will be tough in most of our events this spring playing primarily in the Northeast with cooler weather and the golf course conditions, so I am really proud of the team for staying patient out there today. We look forward to a good week of weather to continue to improve before our next event at Farleigh Dickinson."
Graduate student Linda Wang and senior Andrea Sanchez led the way for the Johnnies in their first event of the spring season. Wang and Sanchez each turned in a 77 to finish in a tie for second.
Freshman Angelica Kusnowo, who was playing as an individual, saw success in her first collegiate event. The Chino Hills, Calif., native carded a 79 on the afternoon to tie for fifth overall.
Sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti and junior Jessie Kweon both finished inside the top-10 in the standings, registering scores of 81 and 82.
Jill Beglin, a sophomore from Carson City, Nev., signed off on an 86 and tie for 21st.
Classmate Laia Barro, who was competing as an individual alongside Kusnowo, turned in a 93.
