St. John’s to Welcome Providence on Senior Day

The Johnnies and Friars will kick off a 2 p.m. on BEDN
– The St. John's women's soccer team will close out its 2021 regular season on Sunday afternoon at Belson Stadium, playing host to the Providence Friars.
Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Drew Casey on the call from Queens.
Seven Johnnies will be recognized on Sunday afternoon, as Zsani Kajan, Jordan Kamp, Emily Purtell, Maia Cabrera, Alex Madden, Samantha Gordon and Annie Wysong will don the red and white for potentially the last time at Belson Stadium. The seven upperclassmen will be honored during a pregame ceremony on the field.
Sunday's contest will mark the 37th all-time meeting between St. John's (5-4-2, 2-4-2 BIG EAST) and Providence (7-2-2, 5-2-2 BIG EAST) and the second of the season, as the Red Storm and the Friars played each other to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon.
In the Red Storm's first matchup of the season with Providence, St. John's leading scorer Jessica Garziano found the back of the net once again for St. John's, tallying her seventh goal on the season and the second during BIG EAST action. Through 11 games this year, the Melville, N.Y., native is tied for third in the BIG EAST for goals with seven. She also ranks third in the league for points with 16 on the year. Wysong picked up an assist on Garziano's goal against Providence, marking the first point of her Red Storm career.
Providence entered Thursday's match with St. John's in need of back-to-back wins to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. However, with the 1-1 draw against the Johnnies, the Friars saw their chance at playing in the postseason shattered.
Entering their final game of the season, Meg Hughes leads Providence offensively with four goals and six assists. She is ranks fifth overall in the conference with 14 points on the season.
