St. John’s Clips NJIT, 5-2, To Close Out 2021 Regular Season

Red Storm finishes 2021 with a record of 14-1
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team took down NJIT, 5-2, at home on Sunday afternoon to finish out the 2021 regular season.
The Red Storm (14-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) earned its fourth straight victory with the win over the Highlanders. The Johnnies took the doubles point from NJIT before taking four of the six singles matches on the afternoon to pick up the win.
Charlie James and Ignacio Garcia paired up on the No. 1 doubles court and won their match, dropping their opponent, 6-1. On the No. 2 court, Djuro Opacic and Evan Felcher grabbed a victory, 6-4, which locked up the team point for the Red Storm in doubles as Giuseppe De Camelis and Dylan Loru fell on the No. 3 court.
Opacic took his place on the No. 1 court in singles and picked up another win, edging his opponent, 6-2 and 7-5, to grab his 12th victory of the 2021 season. Garcia took his usual spot on the No. 2 court and won his match in straight sets yet again, 6-1 and 7-5. The win marked the 11th on the season as well for Garcia and his ninth in the second slot.
James' match on the No. 3 court went the distance, as he dropped the first set, 6-4, before taking the second, 6-3 and eventually falling in the final frame, 6-4. On the No. 4 court, De Camelis took his match in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-5, to grab his 12th victory of the 2021 season.
Felcher earned his 11th win of the season on the No. 5 court in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4, to close out the year with an 11-1 record. Finally on the No. 6 court, Loru fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-1 and 10-7.
The Red Storm will now shift its focus to the BIG EAST Tennis Championships which kick off this coming Thursday down in Cayce, S.C. Stay tuned to @StJohnsMTennis on Twitter for information on the Johnnies first tournament match as well as their seeding.
