Jack Simon earns medalist honors with a score of 1-under 71
The St. John's men's golf team captured its second-straight team title on Tuesday at the Red Storm Dual Match with Iona.
The win marked the third of the season for the Red Storm, as the Johnnies turned in a combined score of 1-over 289 to finish 10-strokes ahead of Iona.
Junior Jack Simon earned medalist honors for the first time this season, carding a 1-under 71 on the day. The Sparta, N.J., native drained a tournament-best four birdies over 18 holes.
"Iona is such a good team so we needed to play well today, and we did," said Head Coach Mal Galletta. "I am so happy for Jack on his first win of the season. We will continue to enjoy the weather and have a few more days of practice before heading to Villanova for the Wildcat Spring Invitational on April 12."
Junior Tyler Gerbavsits sat one stroke back of Simon, turning in a level-par 72 to place second overall at the event.
Sophomores Alex Kyriacou and Gage Wolfle tied for third, each signing off on a 73. Wolfle's 18-hole performance was highlighted by an eagle on the back nine.
Doug Beney and Joseph Busiello rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, turning in scores of 80 and 81, respectively.
St. John's will return to action on April 12-13, as the Johnnies travel to Villanova for the Wildcat Spring Invitational.
