Cosgrove joins the Johnnies after three seasons at Notre Dame
St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella has announced the addition of Danielle Cosgrove to the Red Storm's roster for the 2021-22 campaign.
Cosgrove, a 6-foot-4 Holbrook, N.Y. product, comes to the Red Storm after spending three seasons at Notre Dame. Cosgrove has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
In her most recent season with the Irish, Cosgrove made appearances in a pair of contests against Syracuse and Pitt before opting out of the 2020-2021 season.
As a sophomore, Cosgrove played in all 31 games and made four starts, averaging 2.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. The Sachem East graduate was electric from beyond the arc over the second half of the year, as she connected from deep in five of the last nine games of the season. Over that nine-game stretch, Cosgrove drained a career-high three treys against North Carolina on Feb. 27. Cosgrove's best scoring output of the year came against No. 16 Michigan State (Nov. 14), as she chipped in a career-best 12 points, converting on five of her eight attempts from the charity stripe.
During her freshman campaign, Cosgrove helped the Irish make their second-straight trip to the National Championship. She made her NCAA Tournament debut on March 23 against Bethune-Cookman, knocking down a triple against the Wildcats. As a rookie, Cosgrove earned minutes in 27 of the team's 31 contests, scoring on 10 different occasions.
Prior to her tenure at Notre Dame, Cosgrove was a standout for Sachem East High School, where she capped off her career with 1,573 points, becoming just the ninth player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. Cosgrove also broke the school's record for career rebounds with 1,037. The Long Island product earned a slew of accolades during her high school career, as she was a McDonald's All-America nominee in 2018.
