Fundraising Event Generated More than $100,000 to Support the University’s 17 Division I Programs
The St. John's athletic department hosted its first-ever Johnnies Golf Classic on Monday at Cherry Valley Club in Garden City.
Friends and alumni of the St. John's athletic community, including coaches and staff, lined the course to participate in the event. Over 100 golfers took to the links to play 18 holes.
The outing served as a way to raise funds for the University's 17 Division I athletic programs, helping them to succeed both on the field and in the classroom
The formal portion of program began with a welcome from St. John's Athletic Director Mike Cragg. The event also featured remarks from St. John's University President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., as well as head men's basketball coach Mike Anderson and fifth-year women's golf senior Andrea Sanchez.
The inaugural event generated more than $100,000 for the Red Storm student-athletes with donations still being accepted via the Johnnies Golf Classic website.
