Red Storm earns the ITA All-Academic and Scholar Athletes awards for the first time in seven seasons
The St. John's men's tennis team has been named as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. This marks the first time the Red Storm has been earned the accolade in the Dillon Pottish era.
Additionally, all 10 players, Udayan Bhakar, Giuseppe De Camelis, Evan Felcher, Ignacio Garcia, Charlie James, Dylan Loru, Louis-nils Michel, Matthew Mosejczuk, Djuro Opacic and Aditya Vashistha, were named scholar athletes. This marked the most players to receive the honor since 2014 when two student-athletes were recognized by the ITA.
The Johnnies are one of only two BIG EAST teams to be recognized as All-Academic Teams alongside Creighton.
To earn the honor of All-Academic team, the ITA stipulates that a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher. To be named a scholar athlete, a player must maintain a 3.5 grade point average for the current semester.
Over 1,000 male student-athletes were named as scholar athletes, 75 more than the previous year according to the ITA, and nearly 150 men's teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams.
