St. John’s to Welcome Lehigh on Thursday Evening
9/1/2021 4:24:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Johnnies and the Mountain Hawks will kick off at 7 p.m.
Coming off the squad's first overtime matchup of the season, the St. John's women's soccer team will return to action on Thursday evening, welcoming Lehigh to Belson Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 with Austin Rooney on the call. ESPN3 is accessible via the ESPN app and WatchESPN.com.
St. John's enters Thursday's contest on the heels of a 3-3 draw with Columbia on Friday evening. Zsani Kajan, who leads the nation with seven goals through three games this season, powered the Red Storm's offense once again. The Budapest, Hungary, native recorded a pair of tallies against the Lions for her third-straight multi-goal outing and the ninth of her Red Storm career. As a result, the 2021 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year landed a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Sophomore forward Nicole Gordon, who assisted on Kajan's opening score, registered her first career goal against Columbia. The Amityville, N.Y., native netted the equalizer in the 80th minute to knot the score at 3-3 and ultimately secure the tie for the Red Storm.
In addition to Gordon's helper, three other Johnnies picked up a point on the evening as Ava Collins, Frederique St.-Jean and Emily Purtell each recorded an assist against Columbia.
Through three games this season, St. John's has found the back of the net 11 times to rank second overall in the BIG EAST and inside the top-35 in the country.
Lehigh comes to Queens following its first win of the season on Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks battled defending MAAC Champion Siena to a 2-1 victory. Senior Courtney Supp and sophomore Ava Schaller both recorded goals in Lehigh's win over the Saints. Schaller leads Lehigh in scoring, finding the back of the net in two of the team's three games this season.
The Mountain Hawks and Red Storm will square off for just the second time in program history. St. John's will look to pick up its first win over Lehigh, as the Johnnies fell to the Mountain Hawks, 2-1, in the teams' first meeting in 2017.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 with Austin Rooney on the call. ESPN3 is accessible via the ESPN app and WatchESPN.com.
