Rastelli Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Rastelli put down 65 kills on the weekend, including a 31- kill game.
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2021) – After leading the St. John's volleyball team to its fifth straight title at the Jack Kaiser Classic, Rachele Rastelli has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
In three games, Rastelli tallied a team-high 65 kills on her way to tournament MVP honors. Her top performance came in the Johnnies' five-set victory against previously undefeated Boston College on Friday night, as the right-side hitter posted a career-high 31 kills to go along with 14 digs. Rastelli became the first St. John's player to eclipse 30 kills since Julia Cast on Sept. 19, 2017, against Stony Brook.
Earlier that day, the Parma, Italy, native helped St. John's come back from a 2-0 deficit against Fordham to win, as she tallied 20 kills, nine digs, and five blocks.
The senior also played a key role in Saturday's sweep of Army, posting 14 kills, eight digs, and three blocks in the three-set victory.
On the national level, Rastelli currently ranks in the top 50 in four different categories: total kills, kills per set, total points and points per set. She sits in 22nd place in total points with 117.5.
This BIG EAST honor comes a week after Rastelli was named to last Monday's Weekly Honor Roll for compiling a 55-kill weekend, highlighted by the 1,000th kill of her collegiate career.
