St. John’s Wins Match Play by the Bay

Red Storm defeats Navy, 10-8
The St. John's men's golf team continued its fall slate on Sunday with a victory over Navy in the Match Play by the Bay event at the Naval Academy Golf Club, as the Johnnies defeated the host school, 10-8.
The St. John's match featured six individual matches. Each match was worth three points - one for the front nine, one for the back nine and one for the total 18 holes.
Navy and St. John's split the six individual matches in Sunday's match play. However, the Red Storm edged the Mids by two points to win the men's golf event.
Freshman Peicheng Chen, sophomore Doug Beney and junior Ryan Rittberger were the big point scorers for the Red Storm as the trio secured 2.5 points each on the afternoon.
Senior Tyler Gerbavsits and junior Gage Wolfle each recorded a point at the 18-hole event.
Teammate Jack Simon, who entered play on the heels of a third-place finish at The Doc Gimmler last weekend, added .5 points to the Johnnies' overall total.
The Red Storm will return to action on Sept. 25-26, as the team travels to New Haven, Conn. for the McDonald Cup.
