St. John’s will begin to tee off 8 a.m. on Saturday
Coming off a 10-8 victory over Navy in match play on Sunday, the St. John's men's golf team returns to action on Saturday with a trip to New Haven, Conn., for the Macdonald Cup.
Â
The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. The Red Storm squad will begin to tee off at 8 a.m. on the par 70, 6,800-yard course.
Â
"We are looking forward to playing in the Macdonald Cup," said Head Coach Mal Galletta. "Yale Golf Club is one of the top ranked college courses in the country and we are looking forward to playing there. Most of our players know the course, so that may give us an edge. It will be challenging with a 14 team field, but coming off the win at Navy, we will have some confidence."
Â
Senior Jack Simon enters this week's tournament as the Red Storm's number one golfer. Junior Ryan Rittberger and senior Tyler Gerbavsits are slotted in the second and third positions. Freshman Thomas Stafford and junior Gage Wolfle will round out the five-man lineup.
Â
Sophomore Doug Beney will be competing as an individual.
Â
The 14-team field will include host school Yale, alongside Hartford, Dartmouth, Michigan, Harvard, Princeton, Penn, Fordham, Bucknell, St. John's, Fairfield, Colgate, Cornell and Stony Brook.
Â
Live scoring will be available via GolfStat and all results will be posted to RedStormSports.com at the conclusion of each day.
