St. John’s Wraps Up Day One of Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational

Jack Simon leads the Johnnies with an even two-round score of 144 to sit in a tie for sixth
The St. John's men's golf team finished day one of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational in a tie for seventh place with BIG EAST foe Villanova on Saturday.
2021 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Jack Simon sits in a deadlock for sixth after firing off a 73 in the first round and a 71 in the second for an even two-round score of 144. The Sparta, N.Y., native drained four birdies to open the weekend.
As a team, the Red Storm turned in an 18-over 595 to tie for seventh in the field of 15.
Freshman Peicheng Chen donned a Red Storm polo for the first time in his collegiate career on Saturday, turning in a 74 and 71, respectively, for a 1-over 145 through 36 holes. The Johnnies' newcomer combined for a team-high seven birdies in his outing.
Senior Tyler Gerbavsits produced a 1-over 73 in the first round for the Johnnies while firing off five birdies on the day.
Sophomore Doug Beney, junior Ryan Rittberger and senior Joseph Busiello rounded out the Johnnies' squad of six, tallying nine of the team's 25 birdies on Saturday.
The Red Storm will return to Seven Oaks Golf Club for day two of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational tomorrow.
