St. John’s to Host Midweek Matchup Against Seton Hall

Red Storm are 9-1 at Carnesecca Arena this season
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2022) – After splitting a pair of matches this past weekend at Carnesecca Arena, the St. John's volleyball team will wrap a three-match homestand on Wednesday night against Seton Hall.
The match, which will be available to stream on ESPN3, will begin at 6 p.m.
St. John's enters the fourth week of conference play after splitting two matches this past weekend with No. 18 Marquette and DePaul at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm is currently tied for third in the BIG EAST standings with Seton Hall as both programs hold a 4-2 record.
Sophomore Giorgia Walther was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season on Monday. Walther led the conference last weekend with 4.67 kills per set and was second-best with 5.00 points per set. On Saturday, she recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 kills and 13 digs against DePaul.
Sophomore Wiktoria Kowalczyk has dominated the headlines for much of the 2022 season, leading the NCAA and BIG EAST with 846 total assists. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Rachele Rastelli has been having a stellar season as well, pacing the BIG EAST in points and earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 26. Rastelli has climbed up the St. John's all-time statistical leaderboards, cracking the top five in total attacks, kills, and service aces. Furthermore, she ranks sixth among active NCAA Division I players with 1,672 career kills. She also sits 17th among active Division I players with 4,025 career attacks.
Led by Kowalczyk and Rastelli, the Red Storm tops the nation in both total kills (1,054) and assists (984). Rastelli (282) and Walther (279), rank 16th and 19th, respectively, as individuals in total kills. St. John's is the only team in the nation to place multiple players in the top 20 for total kills.
On the defensive side of the court, St. John's allows a league-low 10.64 digs per set, which is nearly three digs per set lower than the next best team. St. John's 2.30 blocks per set are also best in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall was swept by No. 18 Marquette on Saturday, one night after winning a five-set thriller against DePaul in South Orange, N.J.
Jenna Walsh is fifth in the BIG EAST averaging 3.47 kills per set and is sixth scoring 3.78 points per set. On the defensive side, Asli Subasili is fourth in the BIG EAST in blocks per set (1.09) and service aces per frame (0.41). As a team, the Pirates allow a league-low 1.52 blocks, a category in which the Red Storm lead the league.
St. John's leads the all-time series against Seton Hall, 19-18. The Johnnies have won seven of the last eight meetings between the two with the only loss coming last November in straight sets at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm has won five of those seven matches in straight sets.
In honor of Kids Club Day on Wednesday, young St. John's fans will be able to enjoy poster making and face painting before the match starting at 5 p.m.
After facing off against the Pirates, the Red Storm will embark on a three game road trip beginning on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Butler inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
