Doubles pairing tallied four wins over the weekend to qualify

PRINCETON, N.J. – St. John's women's tennis doubles team of Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson punched a ticket to ITA Super Regionals after ripping off four wins at Northeast Regionals over the weekend.

The duo emerged as one of four teams from a field of 48 doubles teams to qualify for the Super Regionals at Yale on Oct. 21-22.

Haakansson and Bouzgarrou moved past squads from Army, Columbia, Pennsylvania and Rutgers over the three-day competition held at Princeton.

The pairing will join teammates Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas, who will appear in the event for the second-straight year. Bouzgarrou is also slated to compete in singles competition in New Haven, Conn.

Five Red Storm players competed in singles competition beginning on Friday with three recording victories. Willa Bay Breunich advanced past Rutgers' Michelle Kim, 6-7, 6-3 1-0 (6), before dropping a match with Victoria Erechtchenko of LIU. Nielsen and de Lucas also tallied wins before falling in the Round of 32.

Additionally in doubles play, Lalita Devarakonda and Camila Ordonez posted a victory over Kaitlyn Ferguson and Ananyaa Bhargava of Hofstra. The pairing went onto fall to Princeton's Maia Sung and Zoe Howard.

Red Storm women's tennis action continues tomorrow with Nielsen and de Lucas competing in the qualifying draw of the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C.
