Mouna Bouzgarrou, Yesica de Lucas, Emilie Haakansson and Jayden Nielsen to compete at Yale this weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. – Four St. John's women's tennis players will compete against the best in the Northeast over the four-day tournament at Yale on Oct. 21-24.
Doubles teams of Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson and Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen all qualified for the 16-team bracket.
Bouzgarrou earned a spot in singles play after qualifying last year and recording a win to advance into the Round of 16. The redshirt senior will take to the court on Friday against Yale's Chelsea Kung for the opening round.
Earlier this month at ITA Regionals, Haakansson and Bouzgarrou tallied three wins at Princeton to garner one of four spots for this weekend's competition.
Nielsen and de Lucas received entry after appearing the event last year. The Red Storm duo is off to a strong start in its 2022-23 campaign. After compiling a team-best 12-3 doubles record in the spring, the pairing has continued to excel, winning a match over Wake Forest's Nevena Carton and Maryam Ahmedat the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 3.
In the doubles bracket, which will commence on Saturday, Haakansson and Bouzgarrou will face Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom of Brown. Nielsen and de Lucas will square off against Hailey Wilcox and Sophia Edwards from Boston College.
