Women’s Tennis Wraps up ITA Super Regionals

Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen reached the quarterfinal round in doubles play
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Four members of the St. John's women's tennis competed at the prestigious ITA Super Regionals tournament hosted by Yale over the weekend.
The prolific doubles team of Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas reached the quarterfinal round of the 16-team doubles bracket in New Haven, Conn. The pairing capture a straight-set win over Hailey Wilcox Sophia Edwards of Boston College, 6-2, 6-2, on Saturday. The following day, the duo fell at the hands of Columbia's Shivani Amineni and WInta Tewolde, 2-6, 2-6. After falling in the first round at last year's event, de Lucas and Nielsen recorded a win to finish among the top eight this time around.
Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou also competed in the doubles tournament, dropping a hard-fought battle to Brown's Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom, 5-6, 7-6 (7), 7-10.
Bouzgarrou represented the Johnnies in singles play for the second consecutive year. The redshirt senior fell in the Round of 32 to the tournament's second-seed Chelsea Kung of Yale, 1-6, 3-6.
This marked the final event on the Red Storm's fall schedule and the squad will be back in action for the regular season in January.
