St. John’s Heads to Fordham Invitational

Four Red Storm players to compete this weekend against local foes
QUEENS, N.Y. – Four members of the St. John's women's team will compete against area schools this weekend at the Fordham Invitational.
The two-day event will commence on Saturday morning from Anthony F. Veteran Park in Hartsdale, N.Y.
Willa Bay Breunich, Lalita Devarakonda, Amaya Lopez and Camila Ordonez will represent the Red Storm this weekend during the hidden dual tournament.
On Saturday, the Johnnies will start off in singles play against conference foe Seton Hall in singles play at 11:30 a.m. This past spring in league play, St. John's cruised past the Pirates, 7-0, on March 18. Later that afternoon, the doubles pairing will meet Columbia at 2 p.m.
The next day, St. John's will meet LIU in individual competition at 12:30 p.m. The Johnnies will close out play against host's Fordham at 2 p.m. in partner play
Last time out at ITA Regionals, Devarakonda and Ordonez tallied a victory over a duo from Hofstra before falling in the next round.
Breunich looks to continue her strong play after finishing the spring campaign on a 12-match win streak in singles. This fall, the senior defeated Michelle Kim of Rutgers at the ITA Regionals 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (6).
The remainder of the Johnnies roster is competing at ITA Super Regionals in New Haven, Conn., in the last weekend of competition for the team before the 2023 spring campaign.
