Red Storm battled on Saturday, play was called off due to rain on Sunday
HARTSDALE, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team battled area schools at the Fordham Invitational held at Anthony. F. Veteran Park this weekend.
Four Red Storm players- Willa Bay Breunich, Lalita Devarakonda, Amaya Lopez and Camila Ordonez competed in the two-day hidden dual tournament. St. John's was one of five participating schools joined by Columbia, LIU, Seton Hall and hosts Fordham.
In their first action of the weekend, the Johnnies took on a familiar squad in BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall. Out of the four singles matches, St. John's claimed two with Lopez and Breunich tallying wins. Lopez outlasted the Pirates Hiba El Khalifi, rallying back from a first set setback, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7. Breunich dominated her tilt with Oliwia Kempisnki, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles play later that afternoon the Red Storm met Columbia, where the Lions claimed both contests.
On Sunday, the Red Storm began play against LIU in Hartsdale, N.Y., before it was called off due to the rain.
This marked the final event on the Johnnies fall schedule and the squad will be back in action for the dual-match season in January.
