Red Storm to Welcome Marquette for Senior Day Matinee

11 seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony
QUEENS, N.Y.-Â The St. John's women's soccer team will close out its home regular season slate when it welcomes Marquette for a Sunday showdown. The match is set to kick off at 1 p.m. and will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.Â

Sunday is Senior Day as 11 student-athletes will be honored for their contributions to the women's soccer program both on and off the field.Â
Â
The Red Storm enter Sunday's contest on a four-match unbeaten streak, most recently defeating Butler on the road, 3-1, and drawing with No. 22 Xavier in a 1-0-1 week. St. John's has yet to drop a home match in conference play this season.Â

Two Johnnies were recognized for their efforts last week as senior midfielder Jessica Garziano was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and earned an honorable mention nod on TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week.  Senior goalkeeper Gina Muzi earned a spot on the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.Â

Garziano tallied a goal and an assist in the victory over the Bulldogs on Oct. 13 and leads the Red Storm with 11 total points this season. The Melville, N.Y., native also paces the squad with 33 shots and 16 attempts on frame. Garziano is one of two outfield players to start all 16 matches in 2022.Â

Last Sunday against the Musketeers, Muzi logged her seventh shutout in 16 starts between the pipes which ranks second in the BIG EAST. The Delafield, Wis., native has lowered her goals-against average to 0.72 and has logged 38 saves so far this season.Â

St. John's boasts a balanced scoring attack with 10 different players tallying at least one goal and five Johnnies scoring multiple goals.Â

Marquette enters Sunday's pivotal tilt with a record of 7-7-2 and 3-4-1 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles travel to Queens after a hard-fought 1-0 defeat at the hands of 16th-ranked Georgetown on Thursday.Â

Sophomore forward Katie Gibson paces the Golden Eagles with 10 points, including four goals and two assists in 16 appearances. Junior midfielder Elsi Twombly leads Marquette with three assists.Â

Sophomore Chloe Olson has been the primary starter in goal for Marquette, starting 11 matches and logging 30 saves.Â

Marquette leads the all-time series, 16-1-1. In 2021, Marquette edged St. John's, 4-3, in double overtime at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.Â
