Red Storm will try to win its third straight event starting on Monday
QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off the team's second win in as many starts at the Lehigh Invitational this weekend, the St. John's men's golf squad will return to action on Monday at the Nassau Invitational.
Hosted by LIU, the event will take place at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove on Monday and Tuesday.
Last season, the Red Storm was named co-champion of the Nassau Invitational. The Johnnies were tied with LIU after 18 holes before the final round was canceled due to rain.
This past weekend, St. John's cruised to a 13-shot victory at the Lehigh Invitational. Three Johnnies finished in the top six, led by Jack Simon in second with a four-under 140 over 36 holes at Saucon Valley Country Club's Grace Course. Brendan Smith (-3) tied for third while Peicheng Chen tied for sixth with a 36-hole score of two over. Ryan Rittberger fired off a final-round 70 to tie for 13th while Tyler Gerbavsits finished in 19th after going 74-75 on Friday and Saturday. Gage Wolfle shot 78-79 to finish in a tie for 40th.
Two weeks prior at the UConn Invitational, Gerbavsits and Rittberger placed in the top five to pace the Red Storm to a first-place team finish in the 54-hole event.
