Red Storm Leads After 36 Holes at Nassau Invitational

Johnnies will look to capture third straight team title tomorrow
GLEN COVE, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team continued its stellar stretch of play on Monday, securing the 36-hole lead at the Nassau Invitational hosted by LIU at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove.
After turning in a team score of 19-over in the opening round, St. John's shifted gears over the final 18 holes, posting a team score of just one over, the day's best cumulative score by eight shots.
After posting a team-low 72 in the opening round, Tyler Gerbavsits went even lower in the afternoon, carding the day's low round with a 68. The tournament's 36-hole leader played his final 12 holes in three under with birdies on each of the back-nine par 3s.
Peicheng Chen was also sensational in the second round, posting a 69 to finish the day in a tie for fourth (+3). The sophomore carded four birdies in an eight-hole stretch, including three straight on holes 13, 14 and 15.
Ryan Rittberger sits in a tie for eighth after following an opening-round 75 with a 71 on his second 18. The Greenlawn product birdied two of his final four holes, including a birdie on the par-4 18th.
Jack Simon (78-73) sits in a tie for 29th while Brendan Smith rounded out the Red Storm scorers with a pair of 81s (T-52).
Three Johnnies are competing as individuals, led by Joe Busiello (78-70), who played the second round in even par, in a tie for 18th. Gage Wolfle (72-77) is one shot behind Busiello in a tie for 23rd. Thomas Stafford (83-79) rounded out the Red Storm competitors in a tie for 52nd.
