QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2022)- The St. John's women's soccer team will conclude its regular season slate when it travels to Chicago to take on DePaul on Thursday afternoon. Kick-off from Wish Field is set for 4 p.m. ET and will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
On Sunday, the Red Storm closed out its home schedule with a 1-1 draw against the Marquette Golden Eagles, extending its unbeaten streak to five consecutive matches and clinching a BIG EAST Tournament berth. Sunday's result gave the Johnnies an undefeated conference record at home for the first time since 2016.
Nicole Gordon tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season against the Golden Eagles with Melina Couzis and Nicole Multer each logging an assist on the score. Couzis' helper was her fifth of the season, tying her with Jessica Garziano for the squad lead. Multer's assist was her first point of the season.
Garziano remains the leader for the Johnnies' offense, pacing the Red Storm in points (11), shots (33) and shots on goal (14). The Melville, N.Y., native is one of two outfield players to start all 17 games for St. John's this season.
Despite allowing a goal on Sunday, Gina Muzi has continued her excellent season between the pipes for the Johnnies. The senior out of Delafield, Wis., has logged 40 saves in nearly 1,500 minutes of game action and holds a goals-against average of 0.73 which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
The Red Storm's attack has been balanced all season long, with 10 different players scoring a goal and 10 different players logging an assist. St. John's defense, anchored by senior Katherine Turner, has proven to be stingy, ranking third in the conference with 13 goals allowed in 17 matches.
DePaul enters Thursday's regular-season finale with a record of 3-12-1 with a BIG EAST mark of 1-7-1. The Blue Demons picked up their first conference victory of the season on Oct. 16, defeating Seton Hall by a score of 2-0.
Katie Godden leads DePaul on the offensive side of the ball. The sophomore forward has tallied seven goals on 25 shots along with three assists for a total of 25 points.
Mollie Eriksson has been the primary starter in goal for the Blue Demons, racking up 70 saves in 13 starts.
DePaul leads the all-time series, 5-4-1, but St. John's won the most recent meeting in 2021, 1-0, on Sept. 26 at Belson Stadium. Thursday's tilt will be the first matchup in Chicago since 2019.
