Men’s Tennis Sends Seven Players to ITA Northeast Regionals

Red Storm to compete from Oct. 7-10 in Philadelphia
QUEENS, N.Y.– Seven members of the St. John's men's tennis team have been selected to compete in the ITA Northeast Regionals this weekend from Oct. 7-10 in Philadelphia.
All seven Red Storm players- Axel Vila Antuna, Diogo Marques, Giuseppe De Camelis, Carl Gustavsson, Adam Groves, Roger Rogowski and Ryota Kaneda are slated to compete in singles play at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
Doubles teams of Marques and Vila Antuna and Rogowski and Kaneda will be entered into the doubles bracket.
The four-day event features players from 17 different schools from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The top finishers will earn an automatic bid into the ITA Northeast Super Regionals scheduled for Oct. 21-24 at Harvard.
Last weekend, Marques and Vila Antuna impressed at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., both recording wins. Marques, the Stetson transfer, logged three victories over opponents from Vanderbilt, Cal Berkeley and Santa Clara to advance into the Round of 32 of the pre-qualifying bracket.
At this event in 2021, Vila Antuna and recent graduate Ignacio Garcia propelled their way through the doubles bracket reaching the semifinals.
In its first action as a team during the 2022-23 campaign, the Red Storm shined at the Hofstra / St. John's invite. Gustavsson tallied four victories across singles and doubles play to pace the Johnnies. Doubles teams of Rogowski and Kaneda and Marques and Vila Antuna each logged a pair of victories.
