Redshirt senior averaged 19.5 points per game during opening week
NEW YORK - St. John's women's basketball guard Kadaja Bailey was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday.
During the opening week of the season, the redshirt senior averaged 19.5 points on 65.4 percent shooting from the floor during a 2-0 week for the Red Storm. Her scoring mark currently ranks sixth in the conference.
The All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection started the 2022-23 campaign firing on all cylinders in the 78-39 drubbing of Monmouth on Nov. 7. Bailey led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting (76.9 percent) from field-goal range. Defensively, the Long Beach, N.Y., native was all over the place, pulling down nine boards and logging three blocks against the Hawks.
After trailing at halftime on Friday night against St. Francis Brooklyn, Bailey and backcourt partner Jayla Everett took over, scoring 20 of St. John's 23 points in the third quarter to take a lead it never relinquished. Bailey knocked down a pair of triples in the third frame to put the Johnnies up, 51-46, with 3:08 remaining in the third quarter. Bailey logged a final stat line of 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, three assists and a team-high 34 minutes in the 73-51 triumph over the Terriers.
Bailey and the Johnnies will be back in action on Wednesday night against Temple at 7 p.m.
