Hampton Releases 2023 Baseball Schedule

The Johnnies will play a 55-game slate, featuring four teams from the 2022 NCAA Baseball Championship
QUEENS, N.Y. – Entering his fourth season at the helm of the Red Storm baseball program, Head Coach Mike Hampton has announced the 55-game slate for the 2023 campaign on Friday.
 
St. John's will open the 2023 slate in Norfolk, Va., against Old Dominion in a three-game series (Feb. 17-19), facing off for the first time since 2014.
 
After its slate with ODU, the Red Storm will match up with Tulane for the second time in program history, heading to New Orleans for three games (Feb. 24-26) before facing Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond (Feb. 27). Following their four contests in the Bayou State, the Johnnies will take on Marshall in West Virginia on March 3-5 to round out its 10-game road trip to start the season.
 
Hampton's squad will return to Jack Kaiser Stadium for four-straight contests, facing reigning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Champion Hofstra in the Johnnies' home opener on Wednesday, March 8 at 3 p.m. before taking on Albany in a three-game slate over the weekend (March 10-12).
 
The Johnnies will head to Brookville to take on 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) Champion Long Island University in a midweek matchup on March 14 before a home-and-home series with Quinnipiac on March 17-19. The Red Storm will welcome the Bobcats to the Jack for games one and three with Quinnipiac slated to host game two.
 
Following a road date with Wagner on March 22, St. John's will take on the Richmond Spiders in Queens on March 24-26. The Johnnies will hit the road for five straight contests after that, facing Fairfield (March 28), William & Mary in a three-game slate (March 31-April 2) and 2022 NCAA Regional qualifier Army (April 4).
 
After 27 non-conference games to start the season, the Red Storm will open league action against defending BIG EAST Champion and NCAA Super Regional qualifier UConn during Easter weekend, beginning on Thursday, April 6 and finishing with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8.
 
St. John's will head to Hempstead for its second meeting with Hofstra before welcoming conference rival Seton Hall to the Jack on April 14-16. The Johnnies swept its doubleheader with the Pirates last season, earning an 8-6 win and a 6-0 shutout in New Jersey.
 
The Red Storm is slated to face Fairleigh Dickinson twice in a seven-day span, heading to Teaneck N.J., on April 19, followed by an April 26 date at Kaiser Stadium.
 
In between their home-and-home with FDU, the Johnnies will head to Charles Schwab Field Omaha, home of the NCAA Men's College World Series, to square off with Creighton on April 21-23. The Red Storm's last win in Omaha came on May 1, 2021, picking up a 4-1 victory against the Bluejays.
 
Upon its return from Nebraska, St. John's will face Rutgers on April 25 at Jack Kaiser Stadium before its second meeting with Fairleigh Dickinson the following day in Queens.
 
The Johnnies will head to nation's capital on April 28-30, taking on Georgetown in the District at Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The Hoyas are coming off a historic 2022 season featuring a program-record 32 wins and 98 home runs, however, suffered a pair of losses to the Johnnies in Queens last season, including a walk-off single by Paul Orbon in the 11th inning of the rubber match to seal the series victory.
 
Kicking off the May slate, the Red Storm will rumble with Columbia on May 2 in Manhattan before beginning an eight-game home slate against Iona on May 3. After Villanova visits Queens for a three-game set on May 5-7, the Johnnies will celebrate senior day against the Gaels on May 10 at the Jack.
 
St. John's will close out the regular season with back-to-back conference opponents, taking on Xavier in Queens on May 12-14. The Red Storm will finish off the season in Indiana, taking on first-year Head Coach Blake Beemer and the Butler Bulldogs on May 18-20.

Since the addition of baseball in 1985, St. John's has won nine BIG EAST Conference Championships and nine regular season crowns, each of which leads the league by a wide margin. Among current BIG EAST members, Connecticut's five conference titles rank second.
