The guard poured in a season-high 21 points in Sunday’s win over Providence
NEW YORK- After a standout performance against Providence, St. John's women's basketball guard Jayla Everett was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Monday.
In a conference victory over Providence, 63-55, Everett posted a season-high 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. The redshirt senior was the catalyst for a 17-5 scoring run that bounced the Red Storm to 11-0, tying its best start in program history. She scored nine points during that fourth-quarter stretch, including a highlight reel stepback jumper as the shot clock dwindled.
The St. Louis, Mo., native was dynamite from downtown, knocking down five three-pointers, the most by a Red Storm player since Qadashah Hoppie hit six on Jan. 13, 2021 against DePaul. The sharpshooter ranks third in the league with 28 made triples on the season, shooting at a 43.1 percent clip from beyond-the-arc.
The Pittsburgh transfer was quickly established herself as a reliable scoring threat, finishing in double-figures in scoring in every game she's played in and averaging a team-best 16.1 points per game. On a tear as of late, the veteran is averaging 18.5 points per game, while shooting 50 percent from the floor over the last four games.
The honor roll appearance marks the second for Everett on the year and third-straight week a St. John's player has been recognized. On Dec. 5, the squad's leading scorer earned a spot after recording 20 points in the upset win over then-No. 13/14 Creighton the day before.
