QUEENS, N.Y. – Former Red Storm standout Matt Carasiti recently signed and earned a spring training invite with the Colorado Rockies.
Carasiti returns to the team that drafted him in the sixth round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, where he spent over four seasons to start his professional career. The right-hander made his MLB debut with the Rockies against the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 12, 2016, going on to make 19 appearances in the Majors that year.
After missing two full seasons due to Tommy John surgery, Carasiti made his return to the mound in 2022 with the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The two-time BIG EAST Champion made 23 appearances on the West Coast and struck out 28 batters across 21.2 innings of work.
The former St. John's hurler also had stints with the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Atlantic League's Long Island Ducks and in Japan with the Yakult Swallows during his near-decade-long playing career.
During his time in Queens, Carasiti earned the Jack Kaiser Award as the 2012 BIG EAST Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after picking up the victory in a 7-3 win over USF to clinch the Red Storm's seventh conference crown. He was an instrumental part of the St. John's squad that advanced to that year's Super Regional, registering a decisive win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Carasiti will also join fellow Johnnie Gavin Hollowell in the Rockies' organization as both are just two of six St. John's players to be drafted by Colorado in the last 10 years.
