St. John's (11-2, 1-1 BIG EAST) looks to bounce back from just its second setback of the season last week at Villanova, despite Joel Soriano's 11th double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds) and AJ Storr's 15 points off the bench against the Wildcats. The Johnnies also aim for their 10th straight victory inside Carnesecca Arena dating back to its 15-point win over Xavier last season. Posh Alexander nearly recorded a triple-double in that last meeting with the Musketeers, going for 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Xavier (10-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) checked in at No. 22 in this week's Associated Press Poll and is the first ranked opponent the Johnnies will host on campus since No. 15 Providence visited Queens on Feb. 1, 2022. The Red Storm is also 17th in the nation with a +8.6 rebounding margin. Soriano has anchored the team's rebounding efforts, as the 6-foot-11 center is third in the country averaging 12.6 boards per game.
Xavier enters Wednesday's contest riding a six-game win streak, which includes a pair of road victories at Cincinnati and Georgetown. The Musketeers are led by UTEP transfer Souley Boum who has averaged a team-best 17.3 points to go with 4.6 assists this season.
