St. John’s to Host Doubleheader at the USTA National Tennis Center

Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner set to visit on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team will return to action on Friday for a doubleheader at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Red Storm will meet a pair of opponents from the Northeast Conference (NEC) in Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson.
St. John's split its contests last week, after a decisive 7-0 home win over St. Francis Brooklyn, the Red Storm fell on the road at Maryland, 4-0. The pairing of Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas garnered BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honors, winning both of their matches in partner play.
The Red Storm will lead off the doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson, the match is set to commence at 8:30 a.m. In the last two meetings between the Johnnies and the Knights played in 2017 and 2018, St. John's swept FDU, 7-0 both times. Fairleigh Dickinson will roll into Queens for just its fourth match of the season, the Knights currently hold a 1-2 record.
The second leg of the doubleheader against Wagner it set to begin at 12:30 p.m. The Red Storm will look to defeat the Seahawks for the fourth consecutive season. In 2021, St. John's blanked Wagner, 7-0, Camila Ordonez notched her first-career singles win in that contest in a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Seahawks sit at 2-2, but Friday will be the first time have played a dual-match since Oct. 23, 2021 in a 6-1 win over Rider.
The Johnnies doubleheader Friday will mark its last home match before four consecutive contests on the road. St. John's is slated to return to the friendly confines of the USTA National Tennis Center on March 11, to face Fairfield.
