Softball Falls, 5-0, in Series Finale with Connecticut

Red Storm will play Fairfield on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 15, 2022) – The St. John's softball team dropped the final game of its series with Connecticut, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Red Storm Field.
Carolina Zamudio was tagged with the loss despite fanning seven batters and allowing just two earned runs over her complete-game effort.
London Jarrard notched her fifth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Natalie Casto also logged a base hit for the Johnnies.
For the Huskies (12-10, 3-0 BIG EAST), Brianna Marcelino went 2-for-3 and recorded a home run in the first inning to get Connecticut on the board. Elise Sokolsky started in the circle and allowed only three base runners in 6.0 innings of work.
The Red Storm (3-17, 0-3 BIG EAST) came out swinging in the bottom of the first, as Jarrard fired a double to left field, but was unable to score.
In the third inning, Connecticut third baseman Rosie Garcia stepped to the plate with the bases load and sent a two-RBI single down to center field. Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Jana Sanden then singled to plate one more runner and boost the Huskies' lead to four.
The final Connecticut run came in the sixth inning on a Sami Barnett single to score Hollis Wivell and put the Huskies ahead 5-0.
Jarrard belted a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth, but was against stranded in scoring position to preserve the UConn shutout.
The Red Storm will take on Fairfield on Wednesday with the first pitch set for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN3.
