St. John’s Falls to Villanova, 6-2

Red Storm and Wildcats will meet again Saturday at 11 a.m.
VILLANOVA, Pa. (March 25, 2022) – The St. John's softball team dropped the first contest of the series with Villanova, 6-2, on Friday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex.
Reigning BIG EAST Player and Pitcher of the Year Paige Rauch retired 15 straight batters and tallied six strike outs to hold the Johnnies scoreless for the first five innings. The graduate student contributed at the plate, as she recorded one of three Wildcat homeruns.
Amy Mallah went 1-for-3 and recorded a two RBI single for the Red Storm. Natalie Casto doubled to extend her hitting streak to four games and Anna Freveletti notched a single.
Angela Saric pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while Carolina Zamudio recorded 3.2 innings of work and fanned four batters.
The Wildcats converted two runs into one hit in the first inning before Ava Franz homered to right field in the bottom of the second.
Franz blasted her second dinger of the day in the fourth inning bringing in two runs. Later in the inning, Rauch homered with one on base to give Villanova the 6-0 edge.
The Johnnies first reached base in the sixth inning, when Madison Wallace reached on an error. Freveletti then singled to get on before a two RBI single from Mallah brought the two runners home.
The second game in the series is set for a 11 a.m. first pitch on Saturday. The game will be streamed on FloSports.
