St. John’s Finishes Day One at Shark Invitational

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 11, 2022) – Through 36 holes at Brookville Country Club, the St. John's men's golf team sits in third place at the Shark Invitational.
The Red Storm shot 292 in the first round and 285 during the second round to finish with a combined score of 577 (+9). LIU ended the first day of competition as the leaders in the clubhouse. The tournament host posted a combined 572 during the first 36 holes.
Leading the way for the Red Storm was Jack Simon as the senior shot a combined 140 to finished 2-under par and locked in a tie for second place. Finishing one stroke behind the Sparta, N.J., native was Peicheng Chen as the freshman recorded a 36-hole total of 141 to place fourth. Rounding out the Johnnie golfers in the top-10 was Tyler Gerbavsits, who carded a 145 through the first two rounds to finish locked in a tie for ninth.
Ryan Rittberger checked in at 153 for the day to tie for 33rd place. Coming into the clubhouse a stroke behind the Greenlawn, N.Y., native to tie for 36th was Gage Wolfle as the junior posted a two-round total of 154.Three St. John's golfers took to the course as independents, and Joseph Busiello shot a combined 151 to tie for 28th place. Doug Beney finished locked in a tie for 31st place as the sophomore tallied a 152 for the day, just a shot behind Busiello. Thomas Stafford rounded out the individuals, posting an 83 during both rounds to finish with a two-round total of 166 to place 55th overall.
The Red Storm finishes its run at the Shark Invitational with the final 18 holes tomorrow. Live stats from the final round will be available on GolfStat.com
