St. John’s Completes First Day at BIG EAST Championship

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The St. John's women's golf team finished its first round of the BIG EAST Championship at the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens. The Red Storm is locked in a tie for fifth place, as the squad finished with a combined 306.
Reigning BIG EAST title holder Xavier, closed the first round as the leaders in the clubhouse, as the Musketeers signed off on a combined 289. Creighton (300) and Georgetown (302) rounded out the top half of the leaderboard.
Jessie Kweon led the Red Storm squad as the senior carded an even par 72 to finish tied for fourth. The Little Neck, N.Y., native posted three birdies to finish 1-under on the back nine. She also tied for first in the field, sinking 13 pars on the day.
Andrea Sanchez closed out the first round with a 3-over 75, to finish in a tie for ninth. The graduate student began her day with a pair of birdies through the first nine holes. Karen Beglin came into the clubhouse with a 78 to tie for 19th in the freshman's debut at the conference championship.
Cloe Clocchiatti shot an 81 during her opening round to place 28th. Angelica Kusnowo concluded the day four strokes behind the sophomore with an 85, finishing in 30th.
St. John's will be back in action for the second round of the conference championship. Pairings will tee off at 8 a.m. Results from the tournament can be found on GolfStat.com.
