Red Storm Travels to Yale for Mark Young Invitational

19 student-athletes will compete at Yale’s home meet
QUEENS, N.Y.-Â The St. John's track and field team will hit the road and travel to New Haven, Conn., to take part in the Mark Young Invitational. This will mark the first time the Red Storm have competed in Yale's home event in a decade. The meet will get underway on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the hammer throw event.Â

Brianna Burkley and Dolce McPherson will lead the way for the sprinters. Last time out at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, Burkley finished with a time of 1:06.04 in the 400-meter dash and was an integral part of the 4x400-meter relay team that grabbed third. McPherson posted a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.07.Â

Antonia Frazier and Rushellee Jones will race in the 100-meter hurdles. Jones finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at the Sam Howell Invitational on April 2 with a time of 15.79 while Saturday will mark the first time Frazer will compete in the event this outdoor season. In a display of versatility, Frazier will also take part in the high jump and the shot put throw.Â

In the distance events, Katherine Bruno and Gabriella Caronia will look to make a strong impression. Bruno grabbed 11th place in the 800-meters at the Metropolitan Championships with a time of 2:21.90 while Caronia tallied a personal best in the 1,500-meter run at the Penn Challenge on March 19. Both student-athletes will participate in the 800-meter race while Caronia will take part in the 1,500 meters.Â
