Red Storm relay teams finish third in both heats on Friday afternoon
PHILADELPHIA- Six sprinters from the St. John's track and field team competed in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay races against the best in the country at the 126th Penn Relays on campus of the University of Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon.
The 4x100 team of Leah Anderson, Brooklyn Chestnut, Tatyana McKenzie and Onassha Rogers posted a time 45.87, good for third place in a heat that included Rutgers and Ohio State. Despite the third place finish, the quartet just missed out on qualifying for Saturday's final, finishing just .17 seconds behind the last finalist.
The 4x400 foursome that includes Anderson and McKenzie along with Skyy Diop and Avon Samuels posted a season-best time in the event at 3:42.03. The Red Storm finished third in its heat for the second time on Friday afternoon but did not qualify for the final race on Saturday.
St. John's will return to action next Saturday when the Johnnies host the Tom Farrell Classic at DaSilva Memorial Field.
