Jessie Kweon takes home individual crown after stellar weekend
BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (Apr. 3, 2022) – The St. John's women's golf team claimed the Hartford Invitational title on Sunday, after posting a total score of 594 for the 36-hole tournament at Wintonbury Hills.
"I was really proud of the team's play today," said Head Women's Golf Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "We played through some extreme conditions with the cold and rain, but the team was able to stay patient. To shoot one of our best rounds all season, and even in program history, it says a lot about this team's mentality."
Jessie Kweon led the way for the Johnnies. The senior took the individual title, after shooting a 71 during the final round and a 146 for the weekend. Angelica Kusnowo placed third at the event as the sophomore carded a 73 during the final 18 holes to finish with a score of 149 overall.
Cloe Clocchiatti finished one stroke behind Kusnowo to tie for fourth place with a combined score of 150 through 36 holes. The Padua, Italy, native recorded a 72 during her final round on Sunday.
Karen Beglin took home a top-10 finish, posting an overall score of 151 to tie for eighth place. The freshman showed a one-stroke improvement from her opening round, carding a 75 on the final day. Rounding out the team was Andrea Sanchez, whose 73 on Sunday allowed the Cancun native to claim sole possession of 12th place and finish with a combined 154 for the weekend.
Individually, Laia Barro carded a 77 for the day to tie for 27th place with a two-day total of 160. Amy Kim followed three strokes behind the junior with a combined 163. Kim showed improvements during her second round, shooting a 79 for the day.
The Red Storm will be back in action when the team travels to Rockville, Md., for the Lady Hoya Invitational. The two-day event hosted by Georgetown will begin April 9.
