Jackson Tucker tallied a triple in the rain-shortened contest
CINCINNATI- Due to rain in the Cincinnati area, the Saturday matchup between the St. John's baseball and Xavier was called off after five innings, resulting in a 3-2 win for the Musketeers.
In the season finale, Jackson Tucker went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. The freshman out of Staten Island finished his debut campaign with a batting average of .289 and reached base in 19 straight games to close out the season.
David Glancy and Colin Wetterau each tallied an RBI on Saturday while Kevin Michaels scored a run in his final start of 2022.
For the second straight game, St. John's (22-32-1, 7-12-1 BIG EAST) scored first, pushing one run across in the top of the third to jump out in front, 1-0. With two outs and nobody on base, Tucker ripped his second triple of the season to give the Johnnies an instant scoring chance. Glancy cashed in on the opportunity with an RBI single up the middle to put the Red Storm ahead by one run.
The Johnnies doubled their lead, 2-0, in the top of the fourth when Wetterau tallied his 15th RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to left to score Michaels from third.
Xavier's bats woke up in the bottom of the fifth as the Musketeers pushed three runs across to take a 3-2 lead. With runners on first and second and one out, Jack Housinger hit a ground-rule double to center to plate the first run of the afternoon for the home side. Franzoni laced a two-RBI single to center to put Xavier in front.
The Johnnies were able to get runners on the corners in the top of the sixth, but the game was delayed and eventually called off due to inclement weather in the area, giving Xavier the 3-2 win and the series sweep.
St. John's wrapped up its regular season with a record of 22-32-1, marking just the fourth time since World War II that the Red Storm has endured a losing season.
